Community Through Hockey Gears Up for Its 8th Annual Hockey Game in Support of 9-Year-Old Mia Curtin Battling Rasmussen’s Encephalitis”
Jamestown, NY – The excitement is building as the 8th Annual Community Hockey Game approaches, scheduled for Saturday, October 7th, at 7 pm in Jamestown’s Northwest Arena. This year, the event is rallying behind the courageous journey of Mia Curtin, a 9-year-old from Dunkirk, NY, who is fighting against the rare brain disorder known as Rasmussen’s Encephalitis.
Mia’s journey began in April 2022, marked by the sudden onset of Rasmussen’s Encephalitis, which brought with it paralysis and severe seizures. In April 2023, she underwent a Right Functional Hemispherectomy surgery to control her seizures, and now, she’s making incredible strides toward recovery, even preparing to rekindle her passion for ice hockey.
Admission to the game is free, and attendees can look forward to a basket raffle, a chance to win exciting prizes in the large item raffle, and a 50/50 drawing, all contributing to the cause. Since its inception in 2015, this event has raised an astounding $62,600 for local families and organizations in need. The entire community is encouraged to attend this heartwarming event, showing their support for Mia and her journey.
